Projects involving listed buildings and other heritage assets are often more complicated than other types of building project and have a reputation for being slow and expensive. The process for obtaining listed building consent and planning permission affecting the heritage relies on understanding and evaluating heritage significance – but what is ‘heritage significance’ and who gets to decide what it is significant and what isn’t?
This talk will attempt to de-mystify the idea of heritage significance and explain why having a proper and robust understanding of significance can be the key to unlocking the ability to develop a site

Helen is a highly respected conservationist who joined Donald Insall Associates in 2013 having worked previously for English Heritage. Helen counts a number of Oxford Colleges among her clients as well as many private individuals and developers. She is also a member of the Oxford Diocesan Advisory Committee and a Director of the Historic Towns and Villages Forum.
