This event will explore the vibrant Community Food Growing (CFG) scene in Reading, highlighting its role in fostering thriving communities. It is hosted by Reading-based charity Food4families at the RISC centre, home to the world famous edible forest roof garden
Attendees will learn about the multifaceted benefits of CFG, including its contributions to reducing social inequality, enhancing health and wellbeing, promoting social cohesion, and bolstering community resilience.
The event will emphasise the importance of promoting holistic use of public spaces and the need for policymakers to recognise CFG's value.
Discussions will focus on the necessary partnerships between local authorities, developers, CFG networks, and the voluntary sector, such as community artists and the NHS. Additionally, the event will advocate for the adoption of the Right to Grow policy by local authorities, facilitating broader access to land beyond traditional allotment provisions.
The event aims to secure long-term core funding to support CFG groups in building local capacity and ensuring sustainable community development.
